Where Education Becomes A Vacation
Shannon and Karen Cobbs own and operate Grandview Clydesdales with their three sons in Ocala, Florida. They were both born and raised in the horse business and both have had Clydesdales their entire lives. Shannon was born in Indiana and raised in the midwest on a large agriculture farm where Clydesdales were just part of the day to day operations. Karen was born in Manitoba Canada and was part of a large family grain farm that always had horses and Clydesdales as well. So the million dollar question is how did Florida get in the picture? Shannon’s family has shipped hay to Florida to sell to horse farms for over 40 years and he spent much of his youth coming to Florida monthly with his parents and it always felt like home. Shannon’s grandparents had a large cattle operation in Bushnell Florida when he was young and the state just grew to be part of him. So with the hay operation and the horses it was an easy but big decision to move the horses and family to the Horse Capital of the World in 2013.
Shannon and Karen decided in the winter of 2013 that we were going to start looking for property around Ocala, Florida. Finding the farm and purchasing it is another story in itself, but they found a farm that fit and couldn’t wait to make it their own.
Relocating one of the largest Clydesdale breeding operations in the world has been a very interesting experience.
The move from old farm to new farm was 1007 miles one way. Shannon has made so many trips back and forth, to move at the time over 60 head of Clydesdales and all that comes with that size of an operation. But don’t forget the family had to move as well….
It was honestly one of the biggest transitions they have endured.
They have been in construction mode since 2013 and still are, but things are starting to come together.
Stay tuned for the opening of our brand new gift shop. Offering all of the best Clydesdale gear and collections.
